Dr. Cotran was admired around the world for his teaching and writing. His great textbook on pathology is a standard text in medical schools all over the world. Shortly after this painting was completed, Dr. Cotran passed away. A memorial service was held in the amphitheatre of the Brigham & Women's hospital, attended by leading physicians. As the very moving eulogies were presented, I recalled the very pleasant times we had shared in his beautiful homes in Boston and on Cape Cod. J.H.S.
