Experience England's greatest portrait masterpieces in a six-day deluxe
study tour to London. Join us as we pay a personal visit to the de László
family in their private apartment, filled with Philip de László
masterpieces. Richard Ormond, grand-nephew of John Singer Sargent and leading
Sargent authority, will meet with our group. We will visit the National Gallery,
the National Portrait Gallery, The Royal Academy of Art, and Windsor Castle. Personally
conducted by John Howard Sanden and Elizabeth Sanden. Space is limited.

the Great Portraits Tour we have always wanted to lead. No stuffy museum tours,
no idle sightseeing only the exciting portraits we love and are eager to
study. Each morning, before departing on the day's itinerary, we will gather in
the hotel to learn about the masterpieces we will see that day. In the museums
we will go directly to the portraits that are important to us.
Richard Ormond, great-nephew of John Singer Sargent and leading Sargent
authority, will give a special lecture about his great kinsman. Damon de László,
grandson of Philip Alexius de László, the world-famous portraitist
and successor to Sargent, and Sandra de László, Chairman
of the de László Archive Trust, will welcome our group to the private
de László apartment, filled with that master's works.
We will visit Windsor Castle to see the exhibition of portraits by Sir Thomas
Lawrence. We will pay a visit to the home and studio of Frederic, Lord Leighton
(President of the Royal Academy 1878-1896) preserved as an exquisite museum.
We will enjoy the traditional English elegance of Durrant's Hotel (five nights'
accommodations). We have planned this trip to be the dream trip we always wanted
to take, and we invite you to be among the small group who will enjoy it with

Editor, de László Catalogue Raisonne and Chairman of the de László
Archive Trust. The de Lászlós will welcome our group to their duplex
apartment in Albany, Piccadilly, where we will view original de László
masterworks.

Eminent art historian and great-nephew of John Singer Sargent. Co-author of the
Sargent Catalogue Raisonne. Mr. Ormond will lecture to our group at the Paul Mellon
Centre for British Art.

Itinerary
The group departs from Newark Airport at 10:10 pm, arriving at Heathrow Airport
in London at 10:15 am on Monday, June 14.
After completing customs, we will travel by private motor coach into London to
our hotel, where the balance of the day is free for rest or sightseeing. In the
evening we will enjoy a welcoming dinner in the hotel dining room at 7:00 pm.
Breakfast is at 8:30am. Following breakfast, the group gathers (as we will each
morning) for orientation and a background on the art masterpieces to be viewed
during the day. Following our meeting, we will gather in the hotel lobby prior
to boarding our private coach for our visit to the National Portrait Gallery.
At noon, we will meet at the Portrait Restaurant in the Museum for lunch. After
lunch we will tour the extensive collection of the adjacent National Gallery of
Art. After our tour we will return to the hotel. The remainder of the evening
is yours to discover London.
Following breakfast and our group meeting, we meet in the hotel lobby where we
will board our private coach to visit the Royal Academy of Art. At noon, we meet
at the museum restaurant for lunch. Following lunch we will board our coach for
one of the highlights of our trip - our private vist to the de László
Apartment in Albany, Picadilly, owned by the family of Philip Alexius de László
(1869-1937) to view de László masterpieces. This unusual duplex
apartment was once home to Lord Byron, the great English romantic poet. Damon
de László, grandson of Philip de László, and his wife
Sandra de László, Executive Director of the de László
Archive Trust, will be our hosts. After our visit we will return to the hotel
for tea. The evening is free.
Following breakfast and our group meeting, we will board our private coach to
visit the Leighton House Museum. This remarkable house was the home and studio
of Frederic, Lord Leighton (1830-1896), President of the Royal Academy. At noon
we will meet in a private room for a light lunch. We then travel to the Paul Mellon
Centre for British Art for our meeting with Richard Ormond, grand-nephew of John
Singer Sargent and leading Sargent authority (Mr. Ormond is co-author of the multi-volume
John Singer Sargent Catalogue Raisonne. Mr. Ormond will present an illustrated
lecture on his illustrious kinsman. Following Richard Ormond's presentation, we
will board our private coach and return to hotel. Evening free.
We meet in hotel lobby (following our orientation meeting) where we will board
our coach for the trip to Windsor Castle, where we will tour the private collections,
including the portraits by Sir Thomas Lawrence. Following lunch nearby we will
return to the hotel. The evening is free.
Breakfast is at 7:00 am. Please leave your luggage outside your door prior to
breakfast so it can be picked up and put on the coach. At 8:15 am we will depart
the hotel for Heathrow Airport. We will depart at 12:05 pm on Continental Airlines
Flight 111, arriving at Newark at 3:30 pm.
The price is $2,237 exclusive of airfare. The price includes accommodations for
five nights, transportation, meals and entrance fees as stated in itinerary, including
all taxes and gratuities, escorts, and guide at Windsor Castle. Based on double
occupancy (a single room is $1,050 extra). Our travel agent, Georgetown Travel,
will be happy to obtain your air transportation for you, or you may purchase it
yourself, as you prefer.
