n the summer of 1979, Elizabeth and I rented an off-Broadway theatre in New York and presented a five-day seminar that was destined to transform forever the possibilities for teaching art. Instead of a small circle of artists working at easels (the centuries-old traditional format for teaching painting), an entire theatre-full of artist/students met to hear lectures, watch demonstrations and share ideas.
